Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ”Nishank” said in his official statement, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the grand finale of the largest ever online hackathon in the world from 7 pm onwards on August 1 through video-conference. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, the finale shall be organized online by connecting all the participants throughout the nation together over a specially built advanced platform.” He further added, “This year, we will have more than 10,000 students competing to solve 243 problem statements from 37 central government departments, 17 state governments and 20 industries. Each problem statement carries a prize money of ₹1 lakh except the student innovation theme which will have three winners, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with prize money of ₹1 lakh, ₹75,000, and ₹50,000 respectively.”

Smart India Hackathon is a countrywide initiativeproviding students fom all over India an extensive platform to showcase their skills and resolve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives. The Hackathon purports to instill a culture of product innovation and to enable students harness their problem-solving skills. The earlier editions of Smart India Smart India Hackathon like SIH2017, SIH2018 and SIH2019 witnessed mass participation from students from different states and were successful in promoting innovation out-of-the-box thinking in young minds. The purpose of Post SIH 2020 software edition, is to facilitate organizations (ministry/industry) to take forward projects developed by students during non-stop 36-hour Hackathon. It is a non-stop digital product development competition, where problems are impersonated to technology students to submit innovative solutions. Organized by Ministry of HRD, Smart India Smart India Hackathon 2020 will focus on different themes, including Smart Vehicles, Clean water, Waste Management, Renewable Energy, Smart Communication and many more.
