The company announced about its smart contact lens in January that would have the capability to measure blood glucose levels. This will help the people suffering from diabetes, enabling them to constantly measure their glucose levels throughout the day. The results will be displayed on their mobile phones, allowing them to monitor and manage their condition in an easier and more convenient manner. The lens makes use of non-invasive sensors that would analyze tear fluid in the eye in order to give the aforementioned measurements. Novartis CEO Joseph Jimenez has been quoted saying that “We are looking forward to working with Google to bring together their advanced technology and our intensive knowledge of biology to meet unmet medical needs. This is a key step for us to go beyond the confines of traditional disease management, starting with the eye.” Meanwhile, Google co-founder Sergey Brin says “Our dream is to use the latest technology in the miniaturization of electronics to help improve the quality of life for millions of people. We are very excited to work with Novartis to make this dream come true.” The deal still requires regulatory approvals before coming into existence. Also Read:
