The Police had warned people to avoid charging of phones across public charge stations.Cyber experts have opined clearly that data theft can occur from mobile sets. The fraudsters will even load malware on the public USB points stations for charging. Odisha Police has also warned the public via a tweet for remaining cautious since fraudsters access SIM cards or even duplicate it.

Cybercrime has been on the rise in the state, said Odisha Police on Thursday as they issued this advisory. The police apprehends a possibility for data theft from handsets by the use of modern gadgets used at charging stations in public. The Twitter post from Odisha Police said, “Don’t charge your mobiles at public places like mobile charging station, USB power stations etc. Cyber fraudsters are trying to steal your personal information from mobile and installing the malware inside your phone.” It further stated, “Fraudsters often call you pretending to be a mobile operator staff and try to convince you with SIM upgrades or benefits. So be aware & stay cyber safe”.
