The REvil hacker group is believed to be behind the Acer breach. It is believed that they gained access to the company’s data via a Microsoft Exchange vulnerability. The same hacker group is also said to have carried out a ransomware attack on Travelex last year. According to Bleeping Computer, the hacker group has given Acer until March 28 to pay the ransom or it will leak the data it claims to have collected. The has not yet confirmed if it has been the victim to the Acer hit million ransomware attack but have “informed of recent abnormal situations” to relevant authorities. Are You at a Risk if You Own an Acer Device?
Acer owners are not directly at risk because of the REVIL ransomware attack. However, if in case any data related to Acer India’s clients, for example, purchase records, were conceded during this breach, then there is a high probability that the hackers have gained access to your name, phone number, address and maybe even some bank details. Acer India has not released any statement regarding the impact of Acer hit ransomware attack effect on Acer gadget owners. There have been several reports claiming that five different hacking groups, including Hafnium, are already trying to exploit vulnerabilities in the business email servers of Microsoft. To curb the same, Microsoft has currently released an emergency patch for its most popular mail server worldwide – Exchange Server.
